Ski Jumping: the Pole returns from a knee injury
While he was preparing for the upcoming season with some eagerness to erase a dismal 2023/2024 season with no podium finishes, Piotr Zyla was held back for a few days due to a setback. The 37-year-old Pole had to undergo surgery to treat an old knee injury.
« He must undergo knee surgery. It is an old injury that resurfaced during a training session. After an MRI, specialists detected a meniscal lesion, » announced Thomas Thurnbichler, the national coach, on Skijumping. The jumper therefore underwent arthroscopy to treat his meniscus and to plan for the next winter season in the best conditions.
After a rehabilitation that lasted all of August, Piotr Zyla sees the light at the end of the tunnel, as he indicated in a statement from the Polish Ski Association: “Everything went very well, I can’t wait to get back on the hill. I may quietly return to competition in Hinzenbach but my goal will be the Polish Championships in October.”
Although he still seems hesitant about a possible presence at the Austrian stage of the Summer Grand Prix in Hinzenbach at the end of September, the Pole plans to make his comeback in front of his audience for the national competitions. The competition is scheduled from October 18 to 19. An important event for Piotr Zyla, who will then be heading into the winter season “at full throttle !“
