German ski jumper Pauline Hessler announced just over a year ago that she was working hard to return to competition after suffering a back injury in January 2024 and then undergoing surgery for a herniated disc. Since then, however, there has been a lot of water under the bridge, with a wedding celebrated in July and a pregnancy just a few weeks ago.
After missing out on the ski jumps last season, she announced on Wednesday that she was putting an end to her career as a top-level sportswoman in a post published on Instagram. “Ski jumping has been in my heart for 21 years, but now it’s time to write a new chapter. It’s a decision I didn’t take easily, but it feels right,” she wrote.
During her career, Pauline Hessler will have competed in the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games and the 2023 World Championships , and won three collective medals at the World Junior Championships, including gold in 2015 and 2017.
