Ski jumping | Nordic Combined: Annika Belshaw and Tate Frantz win the US championships
Last weekend, the US Summer Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Championships were held in Lake Placid, New York. In special jumping, the two men’s titles went to Tate Frantz. In two close contests, he beat Erik Belshaw and Decker Dean on the small hill and Casey Larson and Andrew Urlaub on the large hill.
On the women’s side, Annika Belshaw also won the two gold medals. Josie Johnson and Samantha Macuga reached the podium on the small hill, as did Paige Jones and Josie Johnson on the large hill. Norwegian Heidi Dyhre Traaserud, unclassified for the US championships, won the scratch event on the small hill before finishing second on the large hill.
In Nordic combined, Alexa Brabec took advantage of the withdrawal ofAnnika Malacinski, who had not sufficiently recovered from her spectacular fall at the Grand Prix this summer, to claim the women’s national title ahead of Ella Wilson and Haley Brabec.
In the men’s race, Niklas Malacinski, second after the jump, took almost 40 seconds off Benjamin Loomis on the ski-wheels to win the gold medal. Stephen Schumann is tanned.
