Ski jumping: Haavard Lie takes care of Sweden
On Tuesday morning, the Swedish Ski Association announced a new organisation to develop its ski jumping branch, which has been neglected for many years.
While Frida Westman, with a podium finish in the World Cup at the start of the 2022/2023 winter season, is the leader of the national team, the last men’s top 3 finish dates back to… March 1992 (third place for Mikael Martinsson in front of his home crowd in Oernskoeldsvik).
Norwegian Haavard Lie, a former World Cup jumper, has been appointed head of Swedish ski jumping , with his sights set on the World Championships in Falun (Sweden) in 2027. He will work alongside Marit Stub Nybelius, ski jumping coordinator.
Sweden’s current aim is to set up collaborative systems with Norway, where most of its jumpers are already training. “It’s going to be exciting and interesting,” says Haavard Lie.
