German ski jumper Stephan Leyhe has announced that he will be retiring from the sport at the end of this season’ s World Cup in Lahti (Finland).
Stephan Leyhe made his world cup debut in December 2014 in Engelberg (Switzerland). In 2020, he celebrated his only victory on the circuit, at home in Willingen (Germany). He also took third place overall on the Four Tremplines Tour in 2018/2019.
“As the season progressed, I realised that I wanted to put an end to my career at the end of the winter. Although ski jumping is my greatest passion, I’m happy to be able to turn the page. I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has accompanied me on ski jumps around the world over the last twenty years. It was a great time, but now I want to take on new challenges and, for example, finish my studies in architecture”, he says in a statement issued by the German Ski Association.
He has also won two Olympic medals in team events: silver in Pyeongchang (South Korea) in 2018 and bronze in Beijing (China) in 2022 . He is also world team champion in 2019, and silver medallist at the World Ski Flying Championships in 2016 and bronze medallist in 2024.
