Ski jumping: a training camp in Germany for Les Bleus
From 21 to 25 October, the French ski jumping team – which has been training as a single mixed group since the summer of 2023 – left its training centre in Courchevel (Savoie)… to take part in a training camp in Oberstdorf (Germany).
In Bavaria, Joséphine Pagnier, Emma Chervet, Jules Chervet, Enzo Milesi, Lilou Zepchi, Ari Repellin and Valentin Foubert did one jump after another on the large German ski jump, known as the Schattenbergschanze and, above all, as the first stop on the Four Hills Tournament.
“Every year, in the autumn, we try to do a course abroad to change our profile, explains Damien Maitre, women’s coach, to Nordic Magazine. We like the profile of the Oberstdorf ski jump, it’s on the men’s and women’s World Cup and we could jump on the ice.”
The aim of the event was to get out on the ice and get back into the winter swing of things just a few weeks before the start of the World Cup, scheduled for 22-24 November in Lillehammer (Norway).
“I liked what I saw overall”
“It went really well! We had a really good course in good conditions. The athletes adapted very quickly to the ice, says Nicolas Dessum, head of the boys’ team. We took the opportunity to do a bit of equipment testing. The Italians, Swiss, Germans and Slovenians were also there to test their mettle. The athletes were in pretty good shape, which was great!”
On the women’s side, although no other national team was present at the same time in the Allgäu Alps, the work went ahead without a hitch. “I liked what I saw overall. We kept on working, sorting out the little details that need to be sorted out before the winter,” notes Damien Maitre.
Group leader La Chaunière Joséphine Pagnier says that the course enabled her to “practise [her] jumps a bit more and change environment with a bit of ice momentum, which will make it easier to adapt for the winter”.
On 16 November, Les Bleus will fly to Norway, where they will return to snow ski jumping just a few days before the start of the World Cup season.
