Daniel Tschofenig experienced a big first this Saturday afternoon at the ski jumping world cup in Wisla (Poland). Having reached the podium seven times individually on the circuit at just 22 years of age, the Austrian achieved his first success in the elite category at the end of an ultra-disputed competition.
Winning by just 1.4 points over Switzerland’s Gregor Deschwanden (126 and 131 metres), who also thought he was going to win for the first time, the young man impressed after landing at 132 and 135.5 metres. Despite a slight scare on the landing, he confirmed his fine start to the season. World number one Pius Paschke (127 and 127 metres) completed the top 3.
Frenchman Valentin Foubert, on the other hand, will have a few regrets. Author of a sublime first run, which he finished in thirteenth place after jumping 125.5 metres, the Courchevel native missed out in the second run after jumping 119 metres. In the end, the young Frenchman finished twenty-fourth in the competition.
