Ski jumping: Pius Paschke extends his lead
With the yellow bib on his back, Pius Paschke seems unstoppable at the start of the season. After finishing on the podium on Saturday, he won the qualifier on Sunday in Wisla (Poland) and took the lead at the end of the first run with the longest jump at 136 metres. Austrians Stefan Kraft, Jan Hoerl and Daniel Tschofenig, who won the previous day, were on the lookout for the slightest weakness in their German foe’s performance to take victory from him.
But if the Wünderteam were dreaming of a hat-trick, they had to face the obvious: Paschke is in great confidence. With 133.5 metres, he won ahead of the three Austrians, with Hoerl and Kraft taking the podium just ahead of Tschofenig. Behind him, Timi Zajc, fifth for Slovenia, Ren Nikaido, sixth for Japan, and Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal, eighth for Norway, could only observe the Austrian-German domination .
Gregor Deschwanden, for his part, picked up some more good points by breaking into the top 10 in ninth place.
Valentin Foubert very close to the final round
Valentin Foubert, after a very fine qualifying (fifteenth), failed to make it through to the final heat this afternoon. He finished thirty-first, 0.1 points off the final heat. Terrible, but the Frenchman is still going strong at the start of the winter season. His compatriot, Enzo Milesi, did not qualify for the competition at all.
As for the other Swiss riders, Killian Peier picked up a few more points with a twentieth-place finish. Simon Ammann finished forty-first in the first heat and Felix Trunz, fifty-first, didn’t make it through qualifying.
