XC Skiing : An Ambitious… and Risky Challenge?
Therese Johaug is back. The 36-year-old skier is resuming her career with the aim of raising her arms in triumph at the fifty kilometers of the World Championships in Trondheim next March. A goal she is very determined to achieve, as she admitted to the microphone of NRK: “I am very competitive, this will be the first race in the history of the world championships. I don’t want to miss out on anything.”
The native of Os (Norway) knows better than anyone, it’s the hard work that will allow her to win a new title at home. And this preparation requires drastic organization. “It’s very hectic, you have to be very organized and motivated,” adds the mother of the family who has to manage with her daughter’s schedule: “Now that Kristin has started kindergarten, I do two sessions before taking her to school.”
All sorts of things have sometimes sown doubt in the mind of the four-time Olympic champion: “Sometimes, I wondered what I was doing, if I had really made the right choice, if I was capable of doing it, and if I was on the right path. But in the end, I decided to trust my instinct.” A perfectly understandable reasoning for someone who has finally laid out their plan of attack for the World Championships. On the agenda for this plan, only four competitions.
The first bib of the Norwegian will be pinned during the national circuit in Beitostølen (Norway) at the end of November. Therese Johaug will then make her grand return to the World Cup in Ruka, Finland. This will be followed shortly by the Lillehammer World Cup stage. The four-time Olympic champion is still deliberating about participating in Davos (Switzerland) but should be present in Hamar (Norway) for the national championships in January.
