XC Skiing: the plan is already in place
Therese Johaug is back, it’s now official. The 36-year-old skier is resuming her career in an attempt to win gold at home during the World Championships in Trondheim next winter. But before the world event, the native of Os (Norway) will try to regain her competitive edge.
The first bib of the Norwegian will be pinned during the national circuit in Beitostølen (Norway) at the end of November. Therese Johaug will then make her grand return to the World Cup in Ruka, Finland. Following closely will be the Lillehammer world stage. The quadruple Olympic champion is still considering participating in Davos (Switzerland) but is expected to be present in Hamar (Norway) for the national championships in January.
With only two World Cup stages and less than a dozen races in total, Therese Johaug’s plan seems limited. But the skier is not worried as she shared with VG: “There aren’t many races, I really have to secure my spot before Christmas. I am used to taking on my responsibilities.”
A confidence that also comes from habit for the mother: “In 2022, I skied very little before the Olympics with two months without competitions. I know that I do not depend on others to progress; I know the level I need to be at.” But before looking forward to winter competitions, Therese Johaug will continue her summer preparation in the upcoming weeks.
